As a keen Bible student and researcher, I appreciate the effort involved in researching for this novel. I enjoyed it, but did question the horses as commonplace. From a Bible History article, "Horses first appear in the Biblical narrative during Solomon’s reign, and there are increased attestations of their military use during the divided kingdom of Israel and Judah."
This does not mean they were not used, but I doubt they were commonly used.
As for the story - this is written from a sympathetic to Michal point of view, and I enjoyed it. The key events are as she would see it, understand it. Nothing is mentioned about Uriah and what happened - Michal would not have known. She did know about the rape of Tamar - as she would have done. The authors have done a great job of characterizing this little known figure. Yes, it is fiction, but enjoyable.

Daughter of the King Carlene Havel Sharon Faucheux 9780615740614 Books Reviews

Interesting idea and somewhat factual. Writing was okay but too many characters with too little roles.
It was fun to go back in time a get a taste of how life was like especially for women.
I started reading this book around six in the evening and finished it at three a.m. I could not put the book down. The story told from the view point of King Saul's daughter, Michal was so interesting and enjoyable. Like I said, I could not stop reading.
Oh, what an interesting book about King Saul's daughter. Fiction of course but based on the Bible.
OMG this was a wonderful book. Made this portion of the Old Testament and the life of David come to life for sure. I HOPE they team up again to write more stories from the Bible bringing these passages to life. I loved that they began each chapter with the Biblical verse that the chapter was about. The provided such rich decriptions that I could picture the surroundings and times. Can't say enough about this book...it went into my Read Again folder
I liked this book because it really brought the characters from the Bible to life. It showed the story of King David from a unique point of view; that of his first wife. The story also brought light to the dangers and difficulties of being a woman during this period of time. Michal is the daughter of King Soloman and a princess, and yet she is stripped of her life and married off to a man in another country as punishment for protecting David from Soloman's wrath. Later, once she is reunited with David she faces the challenges of going from David's one and only wife to one of many wives.
This was a fascinating novel, however the jumping back and forth in time in the beginning felt confusing and disjointed. I'd preferred a straight, chronological timeline . It dragged in places in my opinion, but overall, the way these ladies brought Michal's story to light was interesting, especially as she and David both changed for the worst, then began to heal and receive grace. I would recommend it.
This book tells the Biblical story of King Saul's youngest daughter, Michal. The authors added imaginary conversations to factual events. Some literary license was taken, but in all, the story follows history. The book begins with Michal married to Phaltel. This man is actually her second husband. Her father, King Saul was furious with his daughter for saving David's life, and as punishment, he wed her to another, even though David still lived. In Phaltel's household, Michal receives abuse from his multiple wives. The husband is none too pleasant either.
When Michal returns to David after seven years in this horrid man's house, she finds her father, King Saul and her family dead. By this time, David has added six wives, six sons and one daughter. Michal asks David if his wives love him. He replies, "Some more than others."
I didn't think I'd enjoy this book as much as I did. So much is known about King David, and I feared the book wouldn't be fresh. I was wrong. The authors researched many details about lifestyles, fashions, and abodes back in Biblical times. This is a highly entertaining book. You'll love the characters and receive new insight into the life and times of real people. Scripture at the beginning of each chapter helped the reader know where to find the corresponding story in the Bible.
