On the Silk Road to Love A Fiction Book of Facts edition by Sude A Khanian Literature Fiction eBooks

'On the Silk Road to Love’ is a story of a love unrealized for six years but not forsaken which had brought upon its victim, a PHD Physician specialized in Quantum Physics, an enforced and unjust journey to a mental hospital far from home and family...
This beautiful short story collection explores different layers of love through controversial stories that are deep, with unconventional endings, and thought provoking messages. it starts with soft novel-like story of the journey of a Persian physician lady to Canada, and as it progresses its way to deeper more controversial levels of love, the stories move from poetic prose to philosophical abstract essays which in terms of complexity are compared to the likes of Borges and Italo Calvino. That's the author's playful way of engaging both sides of your mind and triggering both your mind and emotions.
The stories have noway hollywood happy endings. Most have unexpected endings, are controversial and can be melancholic. However, they all embody strong lessons and are thought provoking and enlightening.
Note There are intentional spelling errors on the stories that are autobiographies written by fictional foreign characters. For instance, Couch is misspelled as Coach in the first story etc.

As always, do not let my star count override your judgement of content. More on the stars, counting, and my rating challenges later. This is an extremely difficult work to rate. Khanian writes from a different cultural viewpoint, sometimes fascinating, and often complex. Here is a typical introduction: “In the crowded land of dreams, where reality is too poor to get in the way of a good story, real beings shape impossible romances in the name of holy Gods to form beauties that hardly or merely ever exist in reality so that in times of misery they can feel magical and dance with the sunlight.”
You will be introduced to strange cosmologies: “The formation of the triangle began when god created three unique beings that formed the limit of existence: A creature in black and white with little physical appeal, helpless in look but poisonous in deeds. A creature that looks like a victim but is created to just win and victimize: The Honey Badger /A legless handless worm who to mankind never seems helpless as he is believed to be born to poison and kill even if in reality he is only born to protect: The Cobra /A fantasy in white made up of sunlight and dreams, powerful and strong in look and caring in deeds. A creature that looks like a saver and for that I assume she is created to be victimized for as long as she shall live: The Angel.”
I have a favourite section in Akram: Product of Love: “In absence of sense, it is a wave and in its presence it is a particle that pierces your being and touches your core to give you a sense of life.” This section is oddly complete, has a real sense of closure. Unusual but satisfying.
In Haunted Geek: Faked Love there is again a bizarre sense of closure. “I fell in love once with the man of my dream over the world wide net and when the realness of our bond, trueness of that deep love was nullified and the fairytale was ended, instead of blaming men, I created Spracho as it was easier to imagine a fake bond that deep being created by an extraterrestrial creature capable of changing electric signals than to imagine a man without a heart.” and this: “Imagination; our escape from unimaginable reality!”
If you’re scrolling for the tiny carps, here they are. There are typos, most of which are phonetically close, as if the book had been dictated. Occasionally there are large digressions, which perhaps this reader did not get due to his own cultural ignorance. Once or twice the narrator intrudes into her story; while this can be effective, it is hard to do without distracting the reader. Small carps; back to Khanian’s work.
The book is often focussed on paradoxical internal mental states, as in Love Nullified: “We both had the answers to the paradox we were observing but we wanted to stay lost in its maze as it felt home. It felt secure. We were released from the prison of time and we were kids again, discovering and not questioning.” And this: “At that instant we were not lost in loneliness because we were not alone in being lonely and it felt warm.”
Given all the above, you can understand my difficulty in coming up with a single-digit star count. My personal guidelines, when doing an ‘official’ KBR review, are as follows: five stars means, roughly equal to best in genre. Rarely given. Four stars means, extremely good. Three stars means, definitely recommendable. I am a tough reviewer. This is a challenging work. If you’re looking for some Persian mind-set, this is for you. If you’re looking for some mind-bending prose about mental states and relationships, this is for you. From this curmudgeon, three stars is a clear recommendation. Enjoy.
